New release: newsbeuter 2.6

I just released newsbeuter 2.6. After more than a year since the 2.5 release, and the recent buzz around RSS and Google Reader which also affected newsbeuter, it was time to push out the latest changes. It’s mostly a bug fix release, fixing features, updating translations, stuff like that. You can download it from the usual location.

But expect more: since Google decided to withdraw Google Reader soon, newsbeuter will get support for one or more Google Reader alternatives. Currently on my radar are Feedly (since they announced a Google-Reader-compatible API) and NewsBlur (since they already provide an API), so there will be migration paths for people who have used newsbeuter with Google Reader.

I’m a newsbeuter package maintainer and look forward to getting it out to the users!

If you are looking for input, I’d lean towards adding Newsblur support, since it is opensource, and to updating support for TinyTinyRSS.

Hi, was using newsbeuter since it version 2.5. It works Flavless until I updated it via Debians apt-get to v2.6.
Via cron it was running: newsbeuter -x reload and it caused a lot of ‘Out of memory’ messages to /root. This never happens before. So I decided to go back to v2.5. 😦

    Here is my system:
    Linux 3.2.0-4-rt-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT RT Debian 3.2.41-1 x86_64 GNU/Linux

It uses a lot of CPU when updating now.

The new “ready” state in podbeuter makes it unusable as a podfetcher… please re-add a simple way to remove downloaded podcasts (just as “P” used to do). Found this also discussed here:

I have been using Newsbeuter for the past few years together with Google Reader. Since Google Reader is dead now, for my windows and smart devices I use newsblur as it is opensource. It would be just fantastic if newsbeuter can add support for NewsBlur

    +1 for Feedly

I’m brand new to newsbeuter but would love to see support for Feed Wrangler. I use that with my iOS and Mac applications so would love to see it here. I’m not currently subscribed to feedly nor newsblur at this time. I don’t know what it takes to hook up to Feed Wrangler’s API but I would be willing to explore ways to perhaps help modify NB to include this support.

  13. Michal Zuber says:

    Is Feedly support implemented?

  14. thyseus says:

It’s been two years now. Asking again: Is Feedly support implemented? Is there “a Google-Reader-compatible API” available like promised? Or another feedly-API?

Where is the dev happening? Are you accepting pull requests somewhere?

  15. thyseus says:

Update: i only found this: – are you planning to migrate to github ?

I really need newsbeuter. But it is too slow. Maybe the database is not suitable for me? I use it for searching old articles for reference.

I have 300+ feeds and half a year feeds stored.

Try to find alternative with mariadb or mysql or something…
